Description
Andy Schoenborn, an 11th and 12th grade English teacher in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, shares the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on his students and teaching as well as the challenges virtual learning brings to educators. He identifies Michigan as one of the states most heavily affected at the onset of the pandemic in March and speaks of the losses high school seniors faced and what he hopes for them in the future. Schoenborn identifies some of the ways that he is able to build connections through writing, both in his high school classes and through the 5-Day Open Writes. The poems he shares speak to both the losses and the connections found during quarantine.
