C.L. Frates, pioneer of the Oklahoma City insurance and real estate business, tells of the origin of his being in Oklahoma because his father was in the railroad business. He tells of some of the early insurance companies and of some of the effects of oil fields had on its economy. He also tells of his dealings with horses and playing polo. He also discusses his views of the need for education.
