Charles Scrutchfield Nelson, third-generation owner of the Scrutchfield Farm, purchased in 1899, discussed the history of the family's ownership of the land. When the farm was originally purchased, it was utilized as a horse and Shetland pony farm, eventually raising wheat as well. With the land's proximity to Guthrie, Oklahoma, the original owner also operated a barber shop and owned a furniture business in town while running the farm. The land was then leased for many years and at the time of the interview had been developed into a housing subdivision. Charles Nelson had a home built in the subdivision and had influence over the naming of the subdivision and its streets.
