Description
Denise Krebs, living in Manama, Bahrain, is an elementary English language teacher in an Arabic-English school. She spoke about the “silver lining” of the COVID-19 pandemic on her health and well-being, including how teaching online and staying home gave her time to write, cook, and exercise. Denise explained how at first technology was one-sided, sending videos to students, but as it became clear that the schools would not re-open, they integrated technology that offered greater interaction between teachers and students, and she was able to offer genius hour and “pearls of wisdom” activities to nurture relationships with students. Denise’s poetry captures reflections on her family, faith, health, and gratitude for the support of teacher-poets during the spring of 2020, when she says her poetry emerged like 'magic.'
