Francheska Alcantara, interdisciplinary artist based between the Bronx and Tulsa, talks about her rural upbringing on a Caribbean island and the culture shock she experienced after moving to New York City. She describes how she came to find art as well as her reasoning for using everyday, often forgotten, items to create something beautiful. Alcantara discusses the interaction between art, culture, and history and how these influence her creative process. She explains the meaning behind some of her work and talks about an upcoming ethnographic project focusing on the Black and Latinx communities in Tulsa.
