Gladys Pride 04/06/2012

Gladys Pride was born in 1920 in Hillsboro, Texas. When Gladys was a young girl, her widowed grandmother moved her and her eight siblings to Snyder where she raised them all on her own. Living in a tent with their grandmother, Gladys and her siblings went to school during the day and then worked any jobs they were big enough to do, rather than playing or having free time to themselves. Work was always a priority. Gladys cleaned homes, ironed clothes, and worked in a bank, just to name a few of her duties in Snyder. When she got older, she moved to Tipton where she continued working as much as she could, and still does, at the age of ninety-two. Gladys travels to surrounding towns like Altus, Frederick, and sometimes Lawton, to do her shopping, but she has no plans to leave Tipton. She loves to garden and cook, and loves the people she’s come to know over the years. She remembers Tipton in its heyday, and she keeps her grandmother’s teachings and traditions close to her heart.
