Glenna Matthews came to Oklahoma State University in 1978 as an assistant professor in the history department, and it was here that she first encountered Angie Debo. She teamed up with her colleague Gloria Valencia-Weber to pursue funding from the Oklahoma Foundation for the Humanities for an oral history project with Angie Debo. Over the course of five years, the pair conducted seventeen interviews with Debo, many of which aired on public radio stations in Oklahoma and around the nation, and which provided insight to Debo as a scholar and advocate for social justice.
