Guy Logsdon was born the fifth of five children in an extremely musical household where everyone could sing or play a musical instrument. At age thirteen, he became part of the Western Seven, a country-western band that played in clubs and dance halls, introducing him to the musician’s life, and in high school he established the Diamond D Boys, a band consisting of two fiddles, a guitar, piano, and drums. After high school, Logsdon earned his undergraduate degree from East Central University in Ada and his MLS and EdD from the University of Oklahoma. As an adult, he discovered that one of his favorite high school teachers had had Woody Guthrie as a pupil. Learning this, and then later reading Bound for Glory, Logsdon became enthralled with Guthrie’s life and history. Over the years, he has studied extensively American folklife, including its music, written word, and the history and works of Woody Guthrie.
