Description
Hiroko Fujita was born in Tokyo in 1937. During World War II, her family moved to the rural village of Miharu in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. As a child she heard stories from a farmer that she never forgot. Fujita taught kindergarten and was a grade school counselor for forty years. Through her partnership with American storyteller Fran Stallings, she has told stories in Japanese to children in twenty-one states in the U.S. as well as throughout Japan. During her many visits to the United States, Stillwater, Oklahoma always provided an inviting and appreciative atmosphere that she enjoyed returning to.
