Jennifer Jowett, a middle school teacher in Lansing, Michigan, believes that her hometown’s nature has been influential to her writing. Being part of a family of educators has also encouraged her vocation to be a teacher. She shares that her grandmother has also been part of who she is as an educator and as a writer. Jennifer stresses the importance of being a writer in order to understand her students’ struggles and the problems that they might face in school. She believes in the power of creating a community where administrators, teachers, and students work together to embrace change in virtual spaces or face-to-face learning. Some of her recommendations mentioned during her interview were less focus on grades and more intrinsic value to learning. She also recommended more flexibility in space with smaller groups to obtain a greater impact.
