Joy Culbreath 01/26/2012

Joy Culbreath was born in Boggy Depot, Oklahoma but grew up in Lubbock, Texas. After graduating from Tom S. Lubbock High School, Joy married her husband Alton, a Durant, Oklahoma native and moved back to the state. Joy worked for Southeastern Oklahoma State University for twenty-seven years with a focus on students involved with Upward Bound and TRIO Programs, along with teaching courses in the business education department. Throughout her career at SOSU, she would go on to earn three master's degrees in school counseling, administration, and general education. After retiring from Southeastern in 1997, Joy was hired by the Choctaw Nation to direct their education programs. Throughout her tenure with the Nation, she has focused efforts on building adult programs, preserving the Choctaw language, and child development, to name a few.
