Dr. Laura Belmonte, former associate dean for instruction and personnel at the College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma State University (OSU), talks about growing up in a conservative household and her political acvitism throughout her college career. After coming out while in grad school, she discusses her decision to teach at OSU in 1996 and the political and social climate on campus at the time which led her to live in Tulsa. Belmonte describes her involvement in various LGBTQA+ community organizations in Oklahoma as well as her time on the board for Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights, now known as Oklahomans for Equality. She reflects on her academic career at OSU, helping to create the women's studies program, and the ways in which campus has become more inclusive over the years.
