M. Marguerite Scruggs 08/08/2009

Marguerite Scruggs is a 1941 and 1946 graduate of Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, and served as the Associate Dean of Home Economics at OSU 1973-1985. She recalls growing up during the difficult times of the 1930s and remembers the impact these events had on her family and community. She describes her memories of the stock market crash and the ensuing financial problems and explains how her family worked to survive and how they overcame the challenges of this time. Scruggs discusses the government policies of this time and how those affected many people. She mentions the Dust Bowl and the major storms that often blew through farmland. She comments on her career in home economics and acknowledges that living through the 1930s influenced the rest of her life.
