Marcia Mitchell 01/20/2012 & 02/22/2012

Marcia Mitchell grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After college, Marcia returned home to Tulsa and began her career as a public school teacher. She married her husband Phil in 1967 and three years later, daughter Missy was born. Missy, born with a rare condition which seriously impaired her vision, was truly a blessing for the Mitchell family. At that time, Tulsa did not have the resources to provide support for children with visual impairments. After seeking guidance in Oklahoma City, Marcia and another parent with a visually impaired child embarked on a leap of faith in establishing their own center geared toward visually impaired children. Thus, the Little Light House opened its doors on October 3, 1972.
