Description
Melvin Swinhart was born in Calvin, Oklahoma, in 1919 to Elsworth and Esther Swinhart. As a young boy, Melvin would help out with farm chores on the land his family sharecropped. He attended Calvin School, just a short mile and half from the family home. Drawn to music, Melvin would sing with different groups across Hughes County. During his high school years, he would go on to form the Calvin Quartet, making appearances around the area at local schools and churches along with numerous live radio performances on KRLD in Dallas and KADA in Ada.
