Description
Monica Chavez, born in Oklahoma to Mexican immigrant parents, enrolled in Oklahoma State University (OSU) in 2015 and is the first generation in her family to go to college. She shares what it is like to be a minority student and mentions some of the people and programs that have provided support, including the Retention Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE). Chavez explains her continued interest and work in the League of United Latin American Citizens and her goal of showing minority students that they do have a place at OSU. She hopes to leave OSU having made a difference for future Hispanic students. This is part of the Latino Americans: 500 Years of History project.
