Robert Pemberton was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and grew up in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1978 and enrolled at OSU, following in the footsteps of his mother who had graduated from OSU. After two years there, however, he went back to the family business where he had grown up: Crescent Market. Robert’s great-grandfather was a grocer in Muskogee, and when he passed away, his son moved to Oklahoma City and established Crescent Market in 1942. Robert started working at the store when he was ten, and as he got older, he began to work more and more hours with more responsibilities. Eventually, Robert’s father took over, and then in the mid-1990s, Robert bought the business. His grandfather continued to work at Crescent Market until he was eighty-five.
