Sam Killebrew 04/06/2012

Sam Killebrew was born in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1933 to Tom and Kay Killebrew, the third of six children. In 1937 the family moved to Tipton, Oklahoma for his father’s job with Gulf Oil Company. At the age of twelve Sam began a lifelong career of working in grocery stores. He stocked shelves and bagged groceries for H&H Grocery. After graduating from Tipton High School in 1951 Sam attended Cameron Junior College for two years before getting a degree from Abilene Christian College. It was in Abilene, Texas that Sam met and married Lois, whose family had a background in the grocery business. Sam and Lois moved back to Tipton and in 1961 purchased a long-running family grocery store, Hubble Grocery. They operated this store for thirty years, until they sold it in 1991.
