Dr. Sarah Donovan is an assistant professor of secondary English education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is the creator of Ethicalela.com for teachers, where she promotes the engagement of teachers in reading and writing poetry. She shares how this beautiful project came to be a source of escape for her and also gave her a sense of purpose during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her previous work experiences as a social worker impacted her passion for teaching in different ways. She shares how active listening and group dynamics are essential in teaching practices. In addition, she reflected on the impact of understanding psychological development and the students’ needs as part of teaching. Dr. Donovan identified several issues that aroused during the pandemic through the poetry shared by teachers and herself. She explained how the world has changed and new implications for teaching and learning.
