Thelma Bray 04/10/2012

Thelma Bray was born in New Mexico in 1923 to Gladys and Verna Osborn. In the midst of the Depression, in 1932, her family moved to Pampa, Texas, where they had relatives and where oil money supported a stronger economy. She and her twin sister started the fourth grade in Pampa, and in this interview she recalls what the town was like at that time. Later in life, Bray along with other Pampa citizens helped organize the first annual Tribute to Woody Guthrie in 1992. Harris Drug Store was acquired in 2001 and renovated to serve as the Woody Guthrie Folk Music Center, a place where musicians can gather and collaborate that also serves as a museum honoring Guthrie and particularly his time in Pampa.
