Description
Vanessa Jones, a prekindergarten teacher at Holland Hall Primary School in Tulsa, began by describing her experience in teaching, which is mostly privately based, but is also very supportive of public schools. She helped rally teachers from Holland Hall to go down to the capitol during the walkout, using her own personal days, and spoke to legislators she knew who were shocked that she called them to the carpet on these issues. She felt like her school standing up for public education helped break down the 'iron fence' that is perceived between private and public schools. She does however believe the walkout ended too soon and we should have 'made them hurt' a little more before ending the walkout. When asked why the strikes happened now she stated that she feels teachers are saying 'it's not that I need to be paid more, my students deserve better.'
