Winfrey Houston 12/05/2011

Winfrey David Houston was born at his family’s home at 902 S. Husband Street in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1926. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from South High School in Stillwater in 1944. Houston has been extremely involved in the preservation of his community. Thanks in large part to his efforts, Stillwater’s South High School building was preserved and repurposed as the Stillwater Public Library; the old junior high building was repurposed as the Stillwater Community Center; and a building he owns on Seventh Avenue was preserved, listed as a National Historic Renovation Site, and is now home to various offices and businesses. He is a proponent of Main Street, served as a City Commissioner, and has been a tireless volunteer for endeavors that better his hometown.
