Description
Zane Bergen’s great-grandparents came to the United States with thousands of other Germans from Russia on the Star of Nevada ship and settled in Kansas where they farmed and established a Krimmer Mennonite church community. In 1896, his grandfather married and settled in the Weatherford area where he started a family. Zane was born and raised near Weatherford and went to school in town, rather than the country school, thanks to his father paying his tuition. He graduated from Weatherford High School, then earned his bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in math and chemistry. He came to Oklahoma State University to earn his master’s degree in science and later his EdD.
